MEP design for the addition of two record press machines to an existing warehouse space. The project involved adding a “mini central plant” including a chiller, a steam boiler, a compressor, and the electrical systems required by the manufacturer of the record presses.
The record presses had only been installed in one other facility in the nation, and the design of the printers had recently been changed. We worked with the manufacturer of the record presses to understand their process, especially how much heating and cooling was required at what stage of the process in order to design a central plant for the record presses with all components needed for their process.
The installation of even a “mini central plant” in a building that was never meant to have a central plant was a challenge. We converted an old loading dock that was no longer being used into our space for the new central plant. We reused old sump pits as a catch basin for our waste systems and added a new pumped waste system. We enclosed the area and provided heating to the space for freeze protection.
